The Magick of July: Summer Magick, Rituals & Ways to Embrace the Height of Summer
Share

- What is blooming in your life?
- What needs a little more nurturing?
- What are you ready to release as we enter the darker half of the year?
The Energy of July
July sits at the heart of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and with brings the new temporary normalities of pottering around the garden, lighter evenings, early sunrises, abundant vegetable patches and trees in their full glory.
The energies around this time often has us looking at the 'material' items of abundance whether that is the fruits of all the hard work we've poured into careers and homes since the beginning of the year, to actual fruits from seeds planted in spring. But during this time we can often forget about the inner abundance... the feeling of contentment, appreciating smaller pleasures, spending time with loved ones, nourishing your body and soul, creating precious memories and just finding beauty in everyday life.
When we focus on the material abundance, we often find ourselves chasing 'what's next?'. July brings us the welcomed invitation of just simply appreciating where you're at now, even if it isn't the end goal.

Themes to Work With This Month
Throughout July, you it's best to work with rituals, daily habits and journaling prompts with themes around:
- Abundance
- Confidence
- Gratitude
- Joy
- Pockets of rest in between the business this season brings
- Grounding
- Creativity
- Community
I like to choose one or two themes to work with intentionally. Look at the list above and simply see what you're drawn to. What is something you feel you need to work on? What is something you're calling in?

Botanicals of July
If you've been following my journey for a while now, or you're in the Your Magick World membership.. then you will know that I love the work with the botanicals of the season in some way or another.
It can be in cooking, ritual, or simply bringing in flowers to brighten up the home!
Here's some wonderful botanicals you can work with and ideas on how to work with them for July:
Lavender
One of my favourite plants to grow. Lavender is associated with peace, intuition, dreams and also protection. Lavender is so versatile for intentional use in a number of different ways. I like to use lavender for:
- a small amount in herbal teas, perfect for winding down
- sleep sachets or lavender essential oil roll on's for a peaceful dreams and a good nights sleep
- ritual baths, to welcome in calm
- smoke cleansing, to welcome in calm into the home and protection
- essential oil roll on's before meditation
Sunflower
The sunflower is literally the embodiment of summer magick. It is known for its radiant energy, representation of the sun, joy, abundance and success. Sunflowers are wonderful allies in confidence spells, prosperity spells and solar rituals. Here’s some ways you can use the energy of sunflowers:
- Place sunflowers on your altar or in your home to honour the sun
- Add dried petals to abundance and success spell jars
- Use sunflower oil to dress candles in candle magick
- Scatter dried petals at your front door to welcome in happiness and prosperity
Chamomile
Chamomile is often associated with relaxation, but did you know it also has magickal properties linked with luck and abundance. It encourages patience, trust and finding joy in the

moments. You can use chamomile in many different ways such as:
- Brew in a tea before meditations
- Add dried flowers to prosperity jars
- Sprinkle by your front door to welcome in abundance
- Use in a bath ritual on a New Moon
- Place some in a vase on your altar or by where you journal
Lemon Balm
Lemon balm carries uplifting solar energy while gently soothing the heart. It encourages happiness, emotional healing and clear communication, making it a beautiful herb for midsummer. Use lemon balm in:
- Herbal teas for calming effects
- Self love rituals
- Burn in smoke wands along with lavender for a peaceful home
Elderflower
Elder has long been considered a sacred tree in folklore and witchcraft. Elderflower is associated with protection, healing, wisdom and connecting with nature spirits like the Fae. It reminds us to honour ancient traditions while embracing personal growth. Here’s my favourite ways to use this wonderful botanical:
- Create a seasonal offering on your altar
- Add dried petals to a sachet for protection
- Brew into a tea or refreshing cordial
-
Spend time meditating beneath an elder
Some Simple July Rituals…

Welcome the Sunrise
Wake up early one morning (be aware, it WILL be early in summer!) and greet the rising sun. I like to do this on top of a hill for the most spectacular views. If you can settle yourself and get yourself barefoot for some extra grounding, then set an intention for the day, the week, the rest of the year ahead.. whatever is resonating with you.
Make Solar Water
Much like moon water, you can make solar or sun water during summer and is a wonderful time to make it during the suns peak energy.
Fill a clean glass, jar or glass bottle with spring water (no tap water or plastic bottles!) and leave in direct sunlight for a few hours, before you do so set an intention of what energy you want this water to harness like joy, abundance or confidence.
Once you’ve charged your solar water, you can use it for:
- Watering houseplants
- Cleaning your altar space
- Pop in the fridge to cool and drink
- Add to your bath rituals
- Anoint your candles
- Use in a simmer pot
- Put in a spray bottle with some essential oils for a cleansing spray
Connect with Nature
July especially invites you outside, whilst it’s gloriously warm and dry there is no better time! Here’s some ways you can enjoy nature over July:
- Walking barefoot on the Earth for grounding
- Watching bees and butterflies
- Swimming in natural waters (where safe)
- Intentionally collect natures gifts (without over taking) such as shells, hag stones, feathers and leaves
- Sitting and meditating under your favourite tree
Remember that nature is one of our greatest teachers, so it’s always important to honour, protect and connect whenever you can.
Journalling outside
I always love journalling, but how we journal should definitely align with the seasonal changes I believe. During the summer months, try journalling on:
- What is currently flourishing in your life?
- Where are you being asked to step into confidence?
- What abundance have you already received this year so far?
- What seeds (intentions) did you plant in spring that are starting to bloom?
- How can you slow down and enjoy the present moment more fully?

July reminds us that growth doesn’t always have to be hurried, just look around and notice what has bloomed. It didn’t just appear over night, it took some nurturing, care and love. Nature simply follows its own rhythm, trusting the warmth of the Sun and the turning of the seasons.
As you move through this beautiful month, take time to celebrate what is already flourishing in your life. Gather herbs from your garden, spend long evenings watching the sunset, create simple rituals that bring you back to yourself, and allow the abundant energy of summer to nourish your mind, body and spirit.
If you’re feeling called to deepen your relationship with yourself and aligning the seasons, be sure to check out the Your Magick World membership where you will find our community of likeminded women also attuning themselves to the energies of this earth through my ritual guides, workbooks, meditations, online workshops and more.
May this July bring you lots and lots of sunshine, abundance, courage and countless moments of everyday magick!
